It’s easy to make musical instruments from items around your house. If you’re tired of hearing the clang of a wooden spoon on the stockpot, help your kids make bean tambourines.
Here’s all you need:
• Two Chinet® Classic WhiteTM dinner plates
• Paint
• Ribbons
• Glue
• 10–15 dried beans
• Stapler
Here’s how you make it:
1. Paint the backs of the paper plates with the design of your choice.
2. After the paint has dried, place one plate, right side up, on your work surface, and glue the end of the ribbons into the inner edge of the plate.
3. Put the beans on top of the plate.
4. Place the other plate, wrong side up, on top of the first plate, enclosing the beans and the ends of the ribbons.
5. Staple the two plates together.
To make different sounds, experiment with different materials inside your tambourine: Try a small handful of rice, paperclips or 3–4 pennies.
