Gingerbread French Toast

This gingerbread French toast is easy to prepare the night before your holiday brunch. Simply place it in the oven on Christmas morning and enjoy more time with family and friends.

Ingredients
1 loaf day-old French bread, sliced
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
3 large eggs
½ cup milk
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
½ tsp. nutmeg
½ tsp. ground cloves
Salt, to taste
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Additional maple syrup, for serving
Directions
  1. Line an 8x9-inch pan with aluminum foil and coat with cooking spray.
  2. Layer the sliced bread in 3 rows of 8, slightly overlapping. Set aside.
  3. Melt butter and allow to cool slightly before adding it to a large mixing bowl.
  4. To the butter, add eggs, milk, syrup, molasses, spices, and salt. Whisk to combine.
  5. Slowly pour the mixture over the bread, making sure to evenly coat each slice.
  6. Cover pan with foil and store in refrigerator overnight.
  7. In the morning, preheat the oven to 350. Remove the pan from the refrigerator while the oven preheats.
  8. Carefully spoon pooled liquid at the bottom of the pan over the bread, especially any places that look dry.
  9. Bake for 20 to 35 minutes, or until done.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with butter and maple syrup.
