Kansas City Style Smokehouse Beans

Kansas City is famous for their BBQ, and the smokehouse beans are a staple of any classic BBQ spread. Cook this recipe in the smoker beneath a slab of ribs for even more flavor.

Ingredients

        4
slices bacon
        2
(40 oz.) cans pork and beans
        3⁄4
 c brown sugar
        1 Tbsp dried onion flakes
        1 Tbsp chili powder
        1 Tbsp prepared mustard
        1 tsp liquid smoke
        1
c barbecue sauce
        1⁄4
 c molasses

Directions

1. Cook bacon in a frying pan until tender (avoid crisping all the way). Drain the grease.

2. In a large roasting pan or slow cooker, combine ingredients (including bacon). Do not drain the beans.

3. Bake uncovered at 325 degrees F for 60 - 70 minutes. For slow cooker, heat on low for 6 to 8 hours.

4. Serve and enjoy!

*For even more flavor and a true Kansas City experience, cook beans in a smoker beneath a slab of ribs, allowing the juice to drain into the beans.
