There’s something about holiday parties. Maybe it’s the sparkle or the chill in the air. Maybe it’s just the magic of the season. Whatever it is, we expect a little something extra at a holiday party.
The bar is one way to take your next holiday party from ordinary to extraordinary. Guests expect beer and wine, but what about an old fashioned or a manhattan? Now that’s taking things up a notch. We’ve collected a handful of classic drink recipes and the basic ingredients you need to make them. Get ready to stock your liquor cabinet and learn to be your own bartender.
Stock the Bar
To prepare: Muddle simple syrup and 2 mint sprigs in a cocktail shaker. Add rum and lime juice. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds. Strain cocktail through a Cocktail strainer or a slotted spoon into a Chinet® Cut Crystal® Stemless Wine Glass filled with ice. Top off with club soda; garnish with more mint.
To prepare: Combine vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice, and triple sec in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds. Strain cocktail through a Cocktail strainer or a slotted spoon into a Chinet® Cut Crystal® 9oz. cup. Garnish with orange twist.
To prepare: Stir gin, vermouth, and Campari in an ice-filled mixing glass until very cold, about 30 seconds. Strain cocktail through a Cocktail strainer or a slotted spoon into an ice-filled Chinet® Cut Crystal® 9oz. cup. Using a small serrated knife, remove a 1" strip of peel from the orange (some white pith is okay); it should be stiff enough to provide some resistance when bent. Twist over drink to express oils; discard. Garnish with 3 very thin orange slices.
To prepare: Using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon, mash 7 fresh mint leaves, 1 lemon half, quartered lengthwise, and simple syrup in a 16-oz. mixing glass or a cocktail shaker 4–5 times to release juices and oils. Add 1/4 cup bourbon. Transfer to a Chinet® Cut Crystal® Stemless Wine Glass. Fill halfway with crushed ice, stir, then mound more crushed ice on top. Garnish with mint sprigs.
To prepare: Stir sugar, bitters, and 2 tsp. warm water in Chinet® Cut Crystal® 9oz. cup until most of the sugar is dissolved. Add 3 ice cubes and pour rye over. Stir 20 seconds to chill cocktail and dilute whiskey. Garnish with orange wedge and cherry.
To prepare: Combine bourbon, vermouth, and Angostura bitters in a mixing glass. Pour into a Chinet® Cut Crystal® 9oz. cup with ice. Garnish with an orange twist wrapped around a cherry.
