Christmas Cookie Decorating Party

By: Kelsey Graves of We Heart Parties

Christmas is almost here and a favorite childhood tradition for so many is decorating cookies for Santa. My kids are at the perfect ages to enjoy the fun (2 and 5), and that comes with Christmas cookie decorating – yum! I’m pretty sure I’ve finally discovered the most delicious sugar cookie recipe. For years I always felt like sugar cookies tasted too bland and flour-y. I’ve come to discover that the secret ingredient needed is almond extract. I tested the Vanilla-Almond Sugar Cookie Recipe from Bake at 350 and they were fantastic. They also hold their shape perfectly, which is key for Christmas cookies.

The Chinet® Classic White compartment trays are PERFECT for a Christmas cookie decorating party. They help keep cookies and toppings nicely organized and separated. I filled our trays with alphabet cookies spelling out the kids’ names, cut out Christmas cookies, sprinkles, and red and green chocolate candies. Chinet® Cut Crystal® 9 oz. cups held the icing with Chinet Cut Crystal cutlery ready to do the spreading. The party table was covered in festive red and green wrapping paper, which looked cute and also made for quick and easy cleanup.

A favorite for the kids were the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer cups. Start with a Chinet Cut Crystal cup and add a red pom-pom nose, googly eyes and brown pipe cleaner antlers. I affixed them to the cup easily with glue dots. These cups are great for water or milk while kids are decorating, or to fill with treats as a party favor.

Each child also received a Christmas cookie-themed ornament to bring home as a party favor.

The kids loved getting creative decorating the cookies, and the Chinet Classic White compartment trays kept all the supplies nice and intact without leaving a big mess to clean up. I think the biggest question is how many cookies get eaten, and how many actually get saved for Santa?!
