Donuts with Dad

By: Mariah Leeson of Giggles Galore

Father's Day is quickly approaching and if you haven't already started thinking of ways to make dad's day extra special, I'm here today with a delicious and fun idea for your Father's Day celebrations.

While trying to brainstorm ideas for this year's Father's Day celebration, I asked my kids what some of their favorite Father's Day gifts or activities from previous years were. My oldest said she loved when Daddy came to her preschool class for "Donuts with Dad" and suggested we make dad donuts for his special day. I loved the idea of doing donuts for dad, but instead of homemade donuts, we opted for donut holes with a vanilla bourbon dipping sauce. This recipe is super simple to make, so head to the kitchen with the kids and let's get started!

While dad is still snoozing, head to your local donut shop and pick up two dozen donut holes. Make sure to stop by the grocery store for the ingredients you'll need for the vanilla bourbon dipping sauce as well.

Once you've made the sauce, pour it into a small bowl and set it on a sturdy Chinet® Classic White square dinner plate. Place the donut holes on the plate around the dipping sauce. Don’t forget to include mini appetizer forks or toothpicks for dipping.

Now that you have a delicious recipe to make for dad on Father's Day, you need a fun way to make it extraordinary! Make Donuts with Dad extra special by providing necktie napkins, made with Chinet® Classic White All Occasion napkins.

Step 1: First, open the napkin all the way so that it forms one big square.

Step 2: Starting at the upper tip, fold the left side of the napkin about one-third of the way diagonally to the right. Don’t press the fold down yet.

Step 3: Repeat the last step on the opposite side. Adjust both sides as needed so that both sides are symmetrical. Now press down the folds.

Step 4: Fold the left side in about one-third of the way starting from the upper tip, similar to what you just did in the last two steps. Don’t press it down yet.

Step 5: Repeat the last fold along the right side and adjust for symmetry. When you are happy with the shape of your tie, gently press the folds down.

Step 6: Fold the upper third of the tie diagonally to the right so the tip of the tie is perpendicular to the lower part.

Step 7: Turn the tie over so the tip is now pointing left.

Step 8: If you are using the tie for decoration, you can add diagonal stripes with washi tape. Either wrap the edges around the back side of the napkin or cut them off.

Step 9: Wrap the tip around the top of the tie and tuck it in underneath to create the knot. If needed, secure with a small piece of tape on the back.

Serve dad donuts with vanilla bourbon dipping sauce and coffee in a Comfort Cup® by Chinet® for an extraordinary Father's Day he won't forget! Get the recipe below.

Vanilla Bourbon Dipping Sauce

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup vanilla bean
  • 1 ½ teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, diced
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the brown sugar, vanilla bean and corn syrup and bring the mixture to a boil, whisking constantly. Once the brown sugar is fully melted, reduce the mixture to a simmer and add the condensed milk, butter, and bourbon. Continue to simmer, stirring, until all the butter is incorporated and the glaze is smooth.
