Little Gem Baby Shower

By: Mariah Leeson of Giggles Galore

I love celebrating and entertaining, and when it comes to parties nothing is sweeter than celebrating a mom-to-be and her new bundle of joy. If you have a precious little gem on the way or know someone that does, this Little Gem Baby Shower is full of creative and inspiring ways to celebrate mom and baby.

One of my dear friends is expecting her first baby and it is so fun to watch her excitement as she prepares to welcome her sweet little girl. We talk all the time about how precious this baby is and it inspired me to create a "gem" themed baby shower to celebrate mom and baby. With just a few supplies you can easily create a statement backdrop for your drink cart or dessert table.

What You Will Need:

  • Chinet® Classic White™ square dessert plates
  • DecoArt acrylic paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape

Those Chinet Classic White plates aren't just for piling high with snacks. Did you know they make the perfect backdrop, too?  That's right, all you need to create this colorful gem-shaped backdrop are several Chinet Classic White square dessert plates.

Step 1: Start by cutting a few of the plates in half from the bottom left corner to the top right. Continue cutting several triangle-shaped pieces from the plates until you have a decent size stack of "gem" shapes. I used around 15-20 plates to create my backdrop.

Step 2: Once you have all of your shapes cut, you can start to paint them with the DecoArt acrylic paint.  I love the bright, bold colors mixed with a splash of metallic for this baby shower theme, but you can use any color palette you desire.  I used DecoArt acrylic paint in Cotton Candy, Bright Blue, Sea Breeze, Peony Pink, Chartreuse Yellow and Dazzling Metallic Glorious Gold.

Step 3: Once the paint is dry, put a piece of double-sided tape on the back of the plate and start arranging them on your feature wall.

You can make this backdrop as small or as big as you need.  I created a focal point behind my DIY metallic bar cart with my gem shapes and loved how it made this simple drink station pop. I also added a bunch of gem-shaped honeycomb balls to the bar cart and around the bottom for added impact and color.

This bar cart was the perfect serving station for my signature baby shower drink, Raspberry Fizz Punch.  Set out Chinet® Cut Crystal® cups and let guests fill their glasses with this delicious punch. Add a rock candy “gem” drink stir stick and a striped paper straw and you have the perfect party punch!

I picked up a store-bought cake and used rock candy to decorate it and tie it all into our "Little Gem" baby shower theme. I incorporated other sweet treats by filling a Chinet® Chip & Dip Party Tray with gem-colored candies for guests to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Shower the mom-to-be and her little gem with a sweet and simple baby shower that is colorful, fun and precious, just like her! And don't forget that your favorite Chinet products can be used for more than serving the food at your shower.  Get creative, add a splash of color and have fun making your own gem-shaped backdrop for your next celebration!
