Simple Fall Tablescape with DIY Plate Charger

By: Angela Lerew, Unexpected Elegance

If you’re tired of the heat and ready for change, chances are you’re excited about fall. Fall is my favorite season because it’s not only cooler in temperature but it’s the start of the holiday season.

While Halloween and Thanksgiving are still a few weeks away, that doesn’t mean you can’t entertain. Check out some of my tips for a simple fall tablescape, along with a DIY plate charger, to make any and all fall entertaining beautiful.

Bring the Outdoors In

You can use pine cones, leaves or branches to create a fall feel. There are so many ways to bring the outdoors in during this time of year.

I love to cut a few smaller branches and lay them down the center of the table. Adding leaves to your place settings is also a fun (and inexpensive) touch.

If you’re bringing things from your yard indoors, make sure to take the necessary steps to ensure you’re not also bringing bugs to your dinner table.

  • Shake branches and yard clippings well before bringing them inside.
  • Rinse and dry leaves before placing them on plates so that they are clean and bug-free.
 Use Disposable Tableware

Having a dinner party doesn't mean you have to spend hours cleaning up afterward. Simple and elegant disposable dishes, glasses, napkins and flatware are all you need.

I like to keep the tableware neutral and Chinet® brand products are the only fully coordinated line of disposable tableware…they even have a stemless wineglasses. I like to pair Chinet® Classic White™ products with the Chinet® Cut Crystal® collection.

Another fun way to add some color to your table is by creating a charger using the Chinet Cut Crystal dinner plate.

Refer to the above pictures for the steps.

  1. You'll need a stack of Chinet Cut Crystal plates, scissors, decorative paper, spray adhesive, and pencil. (Optional: disposable gloves) I like to use either wrapping paper or large decorative paper from the craft store.
  2. Place the plate upside down on the decorative paper and trace.
  3. Cut about an inch outside the circle and then make slits.
  4. Spray the underside of the plate and decorative side of the paper with spray adhesive.
  5. Press the two sprayed sides together, then work your way around the edge.  Make sure that the paper is in full contact with the plate.
  6. Cut off the excess paper.
  7. Let fully dry before adding underneath Chinet Classic White dinner plates.

Add Pattern and Texture

Patterns and textures can make any tablescape into something phenomenal. Think outside the box and use pieces of fabric you have around your home – such as scarves. For example, using a plaid scarf or throw blanket as a table runner will add pattern and texture. You could even use a blanket for your tablecloth.

Incorporate Seasonal Items

Using seasonal items will instantly transform your dinner table into a table fit for fall entertaining. A basket filled with pears, apples or figs can give your table a fall appearance.

Additionally, your grocery store is a great place to find seasonal fruit and veggies. Just add a simple pear or apple to each place setting.

Reach Beyond Traditional Fall Colors

Remember, you don’t have to stick with red, orange and brown. There are so many great colors that look beautiful in fall—light greens, ivory and muted oranges are a great way to transition your décor throughout the seasons.

A fall tablescape can be elegant, beautiful, and EASY. Use disposable tableware, add pattern and texture, incorporate seasonal items and even bring the outdoors in for a festive feel. Just remember to keep things simple and have fun!
