Steps

  • Baked Donut Steps

  • 1

    Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • 2

If using a metal donut pan, lightly grease it with butter or baking spray. Set aside.

  • 3

Whisk the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder together in a large mixing bowl.

  • 4

In a separate bowl whisk the buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla, apple cider vinegar, and egg together.

  • 5

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and fold together with a spatula.

  • 6

Add the red food coloring and mix until well blended.

  • 7

Carefully spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling the wells about ¾ of the way full.

  • 8

Bake for 14-17 minutes. Insert a dry toothpick into a donut to test for doneness; if the toothpick comes out with crumbs (and no batter), the donuts are baked through.

  • 9

Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

  • 10

Once they are cool enough to handle, dip the top half of the donuts into the bowl of cream cheese glaze. Then transfer to a platter and top with sprinkles!

  • Cream Cheese Glaze Steps

  • 1

Whisk whipped cream cheese and milk together until smooth and creamy.

  • 2

Mix in powdered sugar until fully combined.

  • 3

Stir in vanilla and set aside until ready to use.
