  • 1903

    Paper is officially plated.

Inspired by seeing his fellow mill workers enjoy their lunch off large chips of maple veneer, Martin Keyes came up with the idea of disposable paper plates. A year later, the first order of Savaday® plates was made in a small plant in Maine on June 24, 1904.

  • 1930

    Huhtamaki joins the party.

In the 1930s, Huhtamaki entered the disposable plate space when it acquired the rights to market molded fiber products in Europe. Decades later, the company also bought the Keyes Fibre Company. Keyes’ factory, which was built in 1908, still operates today in Waterville, ME as part of Huhtamaki, Inc. It is also the original factory for producing the Chinet® line of single-use tableware.

  • 1980

    We love a clean plate.

And we’re not just talking about that feeling when our family finishes every last bite. Since the 1980s, we’ve put an emphasis on sustainability with our Chinet Classic® molded fiber products, which are made with at least 50% recycled materials and can be composted.

  • 2008

…Although we do appreciate a good design.

We made a splash in 2008 when we introduced Chinet Comfort® cup, our disposable coffee cup made to keep up with the busiest of days – and add a little pep in your step with fun, whimsical prints. Take a look at some of our designs throughout the years.

  • Chinet Crystal collection

    2008

A big part of that is our Chinet Crystal® collection of products. In 2008, we introduced the first fully coordinated line of plates, cups and cutlery that has all the pieces you need to wine and dine with zero fuss.

  • 2019

Continuing to make our product go-proof.

Throughout the years, we’ve introduced new features to Chinet Comfort® cup to ensure it’s truly the cup that can keep up. We’ve re-engineered the cup to be as strong and dependable as you. Whether it’s a built-in sleeve or a snap-on lid, we’ll continue to make sure it’s the cup that never lets you down.

  • 2020

    Durability is our biggest strength.

The Chinet® brand is known for being tough enough to handle the messiest meals. In 2020, we doubled down on strength by debuting a 2X stronger Chinet Crystal® plate.
