Mini Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls with icing

When it comes to convenience and ease, pre-made options will always win. However, a pre-made baked good will never quite have that homemade touch.  This recipe gives the best of  both worlds and takes only 15 minutes to make.

Thank you Kasim Hardaway — culinary photographer, recipe developer, and food blogger — for this recipe.

Ingredients

Steps

  • 1

Preheat the oven to the temperature listed on the crescent roll package instructions.

  • 2

Lay the crescent roll dough on a flat surface. Fold the dough in half lengthwise to create a smaller rectangle. Then fold it in half once more, this time width-wise to create an even smaller rectangle.

  • 3

Roll the dough to a ¼” thickness.

  • 4

Brush melted butter over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough into a log and cut into 8 equal pieces.

  • 5

Transfer the mini rolls to individual wells in a muffin tin or all-together in a small casserole dish with the cut sides facing up. Spray either baking vessel with baking spray first, then bake according to crescent roll package directions (typically 9-12 minutes).

  • 6

While the mini cinnamon rolls are baking, whisk the whipped cream cheese, whole milk, and vanilla together in a small bowl. Sprinkle in salt and add the powdered sugar ⅓ cup at a time until fully combined.

*Substitute the whole milk with unsalted butter for more flavor.

  • 7

Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls and serve warm.

Pro Tip: Add nuts, caramel sauce, or diced fruit for extra flavor.
