Patriotic Party Ideas

Memorial Day is often considered the first unofficial day of summer break in our house, and I love that it is a holiday meant to be spent outside. There is no place I like to hang out more as a family than in our own backyard, having neighborhood friends over for a casual get-together. This year, we’re skipping the traditional Memorial Day hamburgers and hot dogs and having a grill-your-own pizza station. I transformed our picnic table into a patriotic tablescape with the help of Chinet Classic^® products and love how it turned out.

The sturdy and disposable Chinet^® brand tableware is perfect for outdoor entertaining. It served as a great base for the simple DIY patriotic table décor and tiered pizza topping centerpiece. I like using Chinet Classic^® products because they are made in the USA, which fit perfectly with my red, white and blue theme.

I also dressed up the Chinet Classic^® dinner napkins by tying red, white, and blue rick rack ribbon around them and adding a mini American flag pick through the knot. I slotted the Chinet Crystal^® cutlery underneath to finish the look.

Finally, a strand of red, white, and blue balloons tied to twine make a festive, last-minute backdrop for your backyard party.

Now that you have the decorations down, it’s time to focus on the food and drink! When I entertain, I love the idea of a make-your-own food option, whether it is a taco bar, ice cream sundae station, or an assortment of pizza toppings – guests always enjoy making their own creations. Plus, it only requires a bit of prep on your end before the party, rather than spending a lot of time serving food once the guests arrive. For our outdoor pizza party, each place setting had an individual pizza crust on a Chinet Classic^® dinner plate.

In the center of the table, I used a tiered serving platter to arrange a variety of toppings in Chinet Crystal^® 9oz cups with spoons from the Chinet Crystal^® cutlery pack. The toppings look so pretty displayed this way, and I love any time I can have food do double-duty as a centerpiece. I added small American flags in sand-filled cups to the top of the platter for a patriotic touch.

The more pizza topping options you have for guests, the better! In addition to pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese, I set out pepperoni, fresh basil, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, olives, and mushrooms. Once the pizzas are topped, throw them on the grill until they are cooked through, and you have a one-dish meal!
